Programme of the general strike · 11N
This is what
we demand on 11N
It’s time to change the rules of the game. We have to put an end to a housing system based on speculation and build a system based on rights. For all these reasons, the 11N general strike demands:
Homes to live in, not to speculate with
- Bring empty homes back onto the rental market
- Abolish tourist flats
- Ban speculative purchases
A large public housing stock(and make the rich pay for it!)
- A wealth tax to fund one million public rental homes
- Expropriate vulture funds and banks
- Public construction companies: no one gets rich off everyone’s money
Housing security: no more evictions from our homes
- Open-ended rental contracts
- Ban evictions
Lower prices
- Cut rents by 50% and link them to income
- End the banks’ abuses with mortgages
- Price controls on groceries, energy and transport
Union rights in housing
- The right to collective bargaining and rent strikes, just as in the world of work
- No more fines for stopping evictions: repeal the “Gag Law”
- Crack down on housing racism
Decent wages, pensions and public services
- Raise wages and pensions to recover purchasing power
- Shorter working hours with no loss of pay
- Strengthen public services and guarantee access to basic utilities
One strike, many struggles
Housing runs through all our struggles
Housing is at the heart of every struggle. Find yours and take this message to your workplace, your school or your neighbourhood.
Covering even the most basic needs costs more and more
The real divide is not between tenants and owners, but between those who need a home to live in and those who speculate
Abusive rents also suffocate those who open their shutters every morning
The problems they face are not inevitable; they are conflicts with specific people, and we can win them
Without a home there is no freedom. Housing is a feminist struggle too!
Defending housing means defending our land against speculation
Social exclusion cannot be fought without guaranteeing the right to housing
There are no decent pensions without decent housing
Working for yourself shouldn’t mean living with water up to your neck
The housing crisis is also a public health crisis
The housing crisis wrecks childhood and fractures classrooms
If you can’t pay for a room, you can’t study at a public university
